I installed a *full* installation of -current inside QEMU and am running
firefox-6.0 in 256MB RAM. It's slow, as to be expected, but it's not
crashed.
Does it crash only when you view certain pages?

I'm just guessing, but it may be that you haven't got all of the required
packages installed.
The runtime packages (gathered from ldd) for firefox are:
dbus
alsa-lib
atk
cairo
dbus-glib
expat
freetype
gdk-pixbuf2
glib2
gtk+2
libnotify
libpng
pango
startup-notification
fontconfig
libX11
libXau
libXdmcp
libXext
libXrender
libXt
libxcb
pixman
