The website seems hopeful, are the remaining issues to do with compiling missing core libraries or issues with booting the kernel ? best regards, - Niel From m-lists at biscuit.org.uk Fri Jul 18 18:19:52 2008 From: m-lists at biscuit.org.uk (Stuart Winter) Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2008 19:19:52 +0100 (BST) Subject: [armedslack] iyonix status In-Reply-To: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> References: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> Message-ID: Hi Niel > I really like the idea of putting slackware onto my iyonix - what is the > state of the port ? ARMedslack as is would work on the Iyonix (not sure about Xorg though) -- my Iyonix has armedslack 11.0 on it with a 2.4 Kernel; but there is no working port of Linux 2.6 which is needed for the current AS tree. I'd love it if there was though! I asked Peter Naulls who did the 2.4 port and he said he can't get 2.6 to boot. If you know about Kernel internals please get in touch with Peter! -- Stuart Winter www.armedslack.org From niel.drummond at grumpytoad.org Fri Jul 18 19:33:24 2008 From: niel.drummond at grumpytoad.org (Niel Drummond) Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2008 21:33:24 +0200 Subject: [armedslack] iyonix status In-Reply-To: References: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> Message-ID: <4880F004.1000808@grumpytoad.org> Stuart Winter wrote: > Hi Niel > > Hey Stuart, >> I really like the idea of putting slackware onto my iyonix - what is the >> state of the port ? I saw a bootloader (loadlin) in your tree, plus a copy of grub - which I have not had time to play with yet, is it still recommended to stick with loadlin at the moment, or is grub stable on arm? thanks for your help! - Niel > From m-lists at biscuit.org.uk Mon Jul 21 09:26:33 2008 From: m-lists at biscuit.org.uk (Stuart Winter) Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2008 10:26:33 +0100 (BST) Subject: [armedslack] iyonix status In-Reply-To: <4880F004.1000808@grumpytoad.org> References: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> <4880F004.1000808@grumpytoad.org> Message-ID: Hi Niel > no sadly, though I will probably hunt around for some patches if they exist, All of the info available can be found at: http://www.iyonix.com/linux.html I also have some of the 2.4 patches: ftp://ftp.armedslack.org/armedslack/armedslack-11.0/source/k/sources/linux-2.4/iyonix/ > and try booting the kernel.. The port author, Tim, didn't have an Iyonix when I last checked, so GRUB is for the RiscPC only. loadlin is what I used for the Iyonix. Last I checked, the 2.4 port also only supported 512MB RAM. My plan now is to release armedslack-current as a port of Slackware 12.1 including what exists of the RiscPC support, and then drop RiscPC support from then on because the Kernel and drivers aren't maintained and I'd rather focus on hardware that people care about and that I can see results of my work! I'm going to give Peter Naulls a nudge today; My Iyonix is an expensive lump of machine sitting in my front room collecting dust otherwise ;-) From niel.drummond at grumpytoad.org Wed Jul 23 21:45:02 2008 From: niel.drummond at grumpytoad.org (Niel Drummond) Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 23:45:02 +0200 Subject: [armedslack] iyonix status In-Reply-To: References: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> <4880F004.1000808@grumpytoad.org> Message-ID: <4887A65E.9000601@grumpytoad.org> Stuart Winter wrote: > My plan now is to release armedslack-current as a port of Slackware 12.1 > including what exists of the RiscPC support, and then drop RiscPC support > from then on because the Kernel and drivers aren't maintained and > I'd rather focus on hardware that people care about and that I can see > results of my work! > > yes, keep plugging at it.. there's not many greater things than having a dead silent slackware box chugging away in my living room :-D I came to your site through Martin Michlmayr's work on debian on similar ARM machines... so far it's been an interesting ride. I have to ask though: what is actually preventing the use of the 2.4 kernel in the 12.1 Slackware tree ? I used to believe you could separate package management away from a kernel. - Niel > I'm going to give Peter Naulls a nudge today; My Iyonix is an expensive > lump of machine sitting in my front room collecting dust otherwise ;-) > > > From m-lists at biscuit.org.uk Thu Jul 24 15:50:03 2008 From: m-lists at biscuit.org.uk (Stuart Winter) Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2008 16:50:03 +0100 (BST) Subject: [armedslack] iyonix status In-Reply-To: <4887A65E.9000601@grumpytoad.org> References: <48803935.2070501@grumpytoad.org> <4880F004.1000808@grumpytoad.org> <4887A65E.9000601@grumpytoad.org> Message-ID: > I have to ask though: what is actually preventing the use of the 2.4 kernel in > the 12.1 Slackware tree ? I really tried to make it work with 2.4 so that I could continue to use the Iyonix, but it didn't work out.
